G.E.M. (Girls Empowered & Motivated), the parent company of Hot Shots Soccer, launched our Food Lab this summer in the Molly Fund Kitchen at the Boys and Girls Club of Marshfield. There are still slots available during August (click on the button on the right to register). We will be offering another Food Lab this fall, so keep your eye out for news on how to register.

The science experiments focus on concepts made real through tangible tools and visible results, such as the Mystery of UnBreakable Eggs, the Science of Ice Cream, and Why Does Popcorn Pop.

The cooking involves healthy AND fun foods that the girls love to make and then eat at the picnic following every class. The recipes include Sweet Potato Veggie Burgers, Cucumber Sushi, Walking Tacos, Dirt Parfaits, and more.

FOOD LAB Instragam posterIn addition to the fun at the Food Lab, families benefit at home from the Food Lab. “Because cooking in a kitchen by yourself every night while the kids are watching TV or off in another room can be lonely,” said Food Lab creator and Hot Shots VP Nicole Hayward. “The Food Lab shows grown-ups and their girls that kids will enjoy helping out in the kitchen while giving them time together that was once spent apart.

“Science is fun! So is cooking. And they’re both going to be very interactive,” said Hayward. “The kiddos will take ownership and pride in the science and cooking things they create. They will walk out of each food lab with sense of accomplishment.”

The eight-week program is open to South Shore girls, ages 2-10, and began Thursday, July 11, at 5:30 and runs for 90 minutes every Thursday through Aug. 29, The fee is $30 per session.  For more information, text/call/write John Wilpers (617-688-0137; jwilpers@hotshotssoccer.org) or Nicole Hayward (617-930-4025; nhayward@hotshotssoccer.org). REGISTER HERE
